Meet Larry Demik - Gilbert, AZ Shop Owner of Two Wheel Jones Bikes
Learn how Larry went from working two jobs (one as a part-time swim coach) to a full time entrepreneur by pursuing his passion. Larry is a first time entrepreneur who had never really thought about owning his own business until a trusted friend flat out asked him to do so. Larry shares relevant and candid insights on his journey to becoming an entrepreneur with several 'lessons learned' along the way.
Larry owns and operates Two Wheel Jones Bikes in Gilbert, AZ; a neighborhood bike shop designed to fit the needs of virtually any type of bike rider from the casual enthusiast to the semi-pro and pro rider.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST AH-HA MOMENT AS AN ENTREPRENEUR?
My ah-hah as a professional was that money has to make it in the bank before you spend it. You can't count your ducks until they've hatched.
As a husband, it's been ah-hah you still have to go home and kiss your wife good night and be as pleasant regardless of how bad things get.
WHAT ARE GRATEFUL FOR?
In order it would be my wife, my dad and my employees is one and just being able to have good people around you.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
Riding my bicycle. I guess if I couldn't ever ride my bicycle the business would go away.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
My Dad inspires me a lot...My goal in life is to not be my Dad or be like my Dad, but to have the knowledge and ability to...just like cycling is a sufferer he's been in multiple businesses and some didn't go so well and some did, but he's always happy. He's always there and you can always call him just like I guess some people do for me, I try to be that to everybody else. Always available in respect to your life but to try to be person to everybody else.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR FAILURES?
You can't do everything 100%. You can't be king of everything. You have to go with your strengths and be happy that you have weaknesses and when you find a weakness kind of be grateful that that one's your weakness and not something else.
Being just Larry if I didn't have Two Wheel Jones,... I want to be better with communication with people that see the other side of me when I'm not.... There's this orb in head always spinning going 'how can you improve, how can you improve, how can you improve?'; because you never want to let yourself down and you do it a lot.
IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME AND VISIT YOURSELF PRIOR TO BECOMING AN ENTREPRENEUR, WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE THAT YOU WOULD GIVE YOURSELF?
Life is short take chances. I don't regret doing this...The worst thing that is going to happen is that you get to sleep in a sleeping bag on the side of the road for a little bit. Those who take chances learn from your mistakes and you move on.
WHAT PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ASPIRING ENTREPRENEURS TODAY?
First look at where you want to go and then ask the people that you think can handle that question. Hey I want to do X, Y, and Z. But you have to find the right person that is going to respond. Not a negative, not a positive and really not a neutral.. you don't want a neutral answer. You want someone that is going to give you all three sides and go 'All right, here's the dice back. Roll em'.
